Cinchona
Cinchona calisaya
Cinchona, also known as Peruvian bark, is the bark of a tree called quino. Originally from Peru, it can be 15-20 meters high and it has a very rough bark from which quinine is extracted along with different alkaloids and tannins for medicinal purposes. Quinine has been used for its healing properties by Native Americans, and was brought to Europe when its antimalarial properties where discovered. Cinchona helps to increase appetite.
